The President of Barge Operators Association of Nigeria (BOAN); Edeme Kelikume has said that efforts to reach the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu has failed following the suspension of barge operations at the Marina corridors.
Recall that after the suspension, the President of BOAN Edeme Kelikume, promised to engage both the Lagos state government and the Federal Government on behalf of its members whose operational licenses were revoked.
However, in a chat with our correspondent recently, the BOAN President stated the association has made several efforts to get in touch with the Lagos State government, but have been denied access to the governor.
Kelikume also denied knowledge of NPA granting license to any barge operator at the Marina to operate, even as he said the association will continue to engage the government for its members whose licensed was revoked.
He said: “We have made efforts to reach the Lagos state governor, we have not been able to get access to him, we are in talks with the MD of Nigerian Port Authority who has also maintained the position that other operators should be allowed to operate, except the ones at the Marina corridor”.
The Federal Government and the Lagos state government had stopped the operations of barges on the Marina few weeks ago and mandated that the Nigeria Port Authority (NPA) to revoke approvals for the barge operations granted some companies which have desecrated the Marina coastline
