CILT, Abuja Chapter, Elects New Executives

 The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Abuja Branch, has elected new executives to pilot the affairs of the institute for the next two years.

The election which took place in Abuja, saw the emergence of an eight-member executive which include: Mr Alex Okosun, Chairman of the branch, Nasiru Bashir, Vice Chairman and Adekunle Adegbuwagun as the General Secretary.

In his acceptance speech,  Okosun pledged to encourage team work and transparent leadership towards making the branch a model in the northern part of the country.

He also pledged that efforts would be made to make CILT viable in Abuja and explore the potential that abound in Nigerian transport industry.

Okosun, however, called for cooperation of members to enable the institute to deliver on its mandate on professionalization of logistics and transport in the country.

He said the new executive was aware of the expectations of the members before electing them into the office, urging them to take payment of dues seriously.

According to him, the new leadership has a lot of work to do and they are committed to increasing the membership base of the institute in the Federal Capital Territory.

“From now onward, we are going to double our membership because when we came in few years ago, we started in cells but today we have a viable branch.

“CILT is the policy trust of the government in the transport industry of many nations and we must ensure that we take our rightful place.

“For instance, the Transport Commission bill that was passed by the National Assembly was substantially supported by the CILT,” he said.

The Chairman of the Election Committee, Mr Billy Filibus, who is also the CILT Representative, Road Mode in Nigeria, urged the new executive to deliver a transparent leadership.

Filibus also charged them to constantly engage the relevant stakeholders for the institute to realise its mandate.

He commended the national leadership of CILT for its commitment towards ensuring appropriate transport policy formulation in the country.
