In his acceptance speech, the newly- elected zonal chairman of the body, Comrade Bob Yousua, expressed gratitude to God for the election, and said he is humbled by his return to continue as chairman.
He said that in his second coming as chairman, part of his agenda is to strengthen all the state chapters that makes up the zone, particularly those in Calabar, Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Bayelsa State.
He appealed for the co-operation of NIMASA, particularly in area of training of their members both within and outside the country.
In an interview with our correspondent, he said that 2011 was a challenging period for the association because of proliferation of some groups.
“Those that turned themselves into a paramilitary body, they did not know the objective and the vision of the association. It caused a lot of problems, Comrade Bob Yousua recalled.
He however expressed optimism for year 2012, saying that the association will attain greater heights. Comrade Bob Yousua, also commended the recent constitution of a task force by NIMASA, as a watch dog in monitoring Cabotage compliance by vessels operating on Nigeria waters.
“I commend NIMASA DG for that, although I’m not a member of that task force in River State, I’m satisfied with the objective of the formation” he said.
