Military Warns Tanker Drivers On Obedience To Traffic Rules

Following the recent face-off between petroleum tanker drivers and the Nigerian Army in Bauchi State, Brigade Commander Agbo Robison commanding the 33 Artillery Brigade Shadawanka Barracks, in Bauchi, has enjoined tankers drivers to always obey the rules and regulations of the security agencies patrolling the highways and to always ensure peace and security.

Following the recent face-off between petroleum tanker drivers and the Nigerian Army in Bauchi State, Brigade Commander Agbo Robison commanding the 33 Artillery Brigade Shadawanka Barracks, in Bauchi, has enjoined tankers drivers to always obey the rules and regulations of the security agencies patrolling the highways and to always ensure peace and security.
Robison stated this while addressing journalists after the meeting with the leadership of the tankers drivers in Bauchi last week. Tension had been high for some time, following friction between soldiers and tanker drivers over roadblocks mounted on highways.
Robinson explained that the meeting was held in order to sensitize the drivers on highway rules so that they could take the message back to their members.
Speaking shortly after the two-hour meeting which held behind closed doors, Robison who addressed journalists in company with the state Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ladan, and state Director of SSS said the aim of the meeting was to enhance security on highways.
He stated that some motorists do not obey the rules of stop-and-check from the Federal Government, a situation that caused friction between security agencies and motorists, especially, the tanker drivers.
“We have been mandated to search all vehicles on highways due to the security situation in the country because, people use any type of vehicle to carry fire arms, that was why Federal Government gave the directives to always search all forms of vehicles plying our road,” he said
He urged them to always make themselves available for searching, adding, “Whenever any one of you have problem with our men, don’t take the laws into your hands but make sure you follow appropriate channels and ensure you do not stop at unauthorized road blocks.
Responding, the state Chairman of the Tankers Drivers Union, Mr. Mohammed Chindo Musa commended security agencies on the sensitization meeting. He said his members were law abiding because, they briefed them every month on the need to obey rules and regulations on highway.
