NIMASA Partners Firm to Sensitize Lawyers on Cabotage Law
The Maritime and Commercial Law Partners in collaboration with the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has identified that most Nigerian lawyers do not understand the Coastal and Inland Shipping Act (Cabotage 2003) and that there is need for them to be enlightened as a way of enhancing the implementation of the law in Nigeria.
At a sensitization programme titled “Deepening Awareness on the Nigerian Cabotage Regime Among Lawyers” which was held by the duo in Abuja recently, the multiplier effect of an effective Cabotage regime was made known to a cross-section of Nigerian lawyers who participated in the event.
The Maritime and Commercial Law Partners is the product of three law firms Osuala E.Nwagbara & CO. Public Notary for Nigeria, Sonnie Ekwowusi & Co .Public Notary for Nigeria and C.C. Ohuruogu & CO and other lawyers who are associates of the firm.

Speaking with Shipping Position Daily in Lagos last week, Principal Partner of Osuala E.Nwagbara & CO, Barrister Osuala Nwagbara explained that apart from the sensitization, the firm, being a maritime law firm, has also been contacted by chapters of the Nigerian Bar Association in order to get their lawyers up to date on the provisions of the Cabotage Act.
According to him, if Nigerian lawyers are conversant with the Cabotage Act, it will further assist the Nigerian Maritime and Safety Agency (NIMASA) which is the implementing agency, to properly enforce the law.
