More Tank Farms Take – Off In Lagos

Even as government recently ordered that no new tank farm will be allowed to spring up in Lagos, two new facilities have opened for businesses. Both are operating from the ever- busy Kirikiri axis of Apapa. 

The first facility is owned by another major oil importing company; Bovas Oil and gas, while he second belongs to Techno oil and gas, both have so far joined the bloated rank of tank farm operators in Lagos.
However, on the same Mosheshe Avenue in Kirikiri, Apapa, Lagos there are other tank farms that are yet to commence operations.  These are Index oil, Swift oil and gas as well as Fatgbems oil and gas.

Company officials said that it has been close to two years since work began at the site belonging to Bovas, but the depot manager Mr. Olayinka Paul however told Shipping Position Weekly that full activities have now commenced at the depot which is situated at Mosheshe estate, Kirikiri in Apapa. He said that the company has started with the supply and distribution of petroleum products.

Although Olayinka refused to give details, he however confirmed to our correspondent that officials of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) have already visited the storage facility during its assessment tours of depots in Lagos and that the NNPC has showed interest in using the facility in meeting the daily consumption of petroleum products in the country.

The second; Techno oil and gas, Shipping Position Weekly was told,  has also been listed by the NNPC to be involved in the project and the depot manager Mr. S. Okpithe says that it has since started its distribution of products given by the NNPC.

The be one of the best in the Industry and  With the completion and commissioning of the facility installed, Bovas Oil ultra-modern tank farm is said to have capacity for storage of 175) million litres  of AGO, PMS and DPK per month.

According to its officials, the facility also contains an installed automatic shut-down system; in case of an emergency, an automated tank gauge system and safety devices, as well as fixed monitors positioned around the gantries and is capable of releasing both water and foam compound for fire fighting.
