In a show of solidarity and collaboration, Dr. Emeka Akabogu, Senior Partner at Akabogu & Associates, has led a delegation of barristers and lawyers to visit the leadership of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) at their headquarters in Lagos.

During the visit, Dr. Akabogu lauded the MWUN as a unique labour organization with immense significance in the maritime industry. He highlighted the Union’s remarkable transformation under the leadership of its current President-General, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju.

According to Dr. Akabogu, the MWUN has evolved into a reputable and cohesive union, becoming the envy of labour organizations across Nigeria, Africa, and globally.

Dr. Akabogu praised Comrade Adeyanju for his pragmatic decisions that have repositioned the Union towards progressive advancement.

He pointed out the positive changes within the dockworkers sector, contrasting the current relative peace with the past when crises were rampant. The seasoned legal luminary emphasized that the peace and stability currently enjoyed in the sector cannot be overstated.

Expressing his gratitude, Dr. Akabogu thanked the Union for the warm and memorable reception accorded to his delegation. He expressed his long-standing desire to engage with the Union, noting that the visit was a significant step towards collaboration. The visit aimed to establish common ground for partnership between MWUN and Akabogu & Associates, fostering a harmonious operational environment between employers and employees and enhancing engagement with governments, stakeholders, and practitioners in the maritime sector.

In response, Comrade Adeyanju commended Dr. Akabogu for his excellent contributions to resolving issues in the sector. He acknowledged Dr. Akabogu’s intelligent and brilliant engagement in various forums and his niche in government labour matters, particularly in the maritime industry.

The President-General assured that the Union would integrate and synergize with Akabogu & Associates to address some of the pressing challenges facing the Union.

He expressed hope that this new relationship would bring much-needed relief and solutions to the Union in all aspects.
