Chief Joshua Ogunleye, was commended for his outstanding contributions in a press statement released by MWUN’s spokesperson, Comrade Ikemefuna John Kennedy, on Friday.
The statement reads in part: “On behalf of my family and the entire membership of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, I bring warm greetings and joyous celebrations on the occasion of your 78th birthday”.
Comrade Adeyanju continued: “Your iconic leadership and selfless dedication to humanity over the years have undeniably etched your name in the annals of history. The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria bears witness to your unwavering commitment, remarkable achievements, and tireless efforts in advocating for workers’ rights and empowerment.”

He acknowledged that the foundation laid during Chief Ogunleye’s tenure as the pioneer President of the defunct Dockworkers’ Union of Nigeria had paved the way for significant advancements in the welfare of dockworkers in Nigeria.
“We, as a union, are immensely grateful to witness your groundbreaking vision that brought the International Transport Federation (ITF) to Nigeria. This path you’ve forged has illuminated our way, and we continue to tread upon it with gratitude”, Comrade Adeyanju declared.
“Your honourable stewardship in every aspect of your duties is exemplary, and we are thankful for your unwavering dedication, Comrade Adeyanju concluded in the statement.
