MWUN NPA Branch President Preaches Peace Among Stakeholders

The president, Nigerian Port Authority (NPA) branch of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), comrade Leke Sani has harped on the need for peaceful co-existence among stakeholders in the maritime industry.

Comrade Sani stated this at the weekend during the inaugural meeting of the branch working committee (BWC of the NPA branch if the union which held at its national secretariat in Apapa, Lagos.

He emphasized the determination of the union in collaboration with the senior staff association of NPA to cooperate with the management of NPA so as to achieve better working conditions and welfare package for its members.

To underscore the union’s determination to better the lot of its members, the NPA branch president disclosed that letters have been written to the management of NPA to address issues that border on monetization and arrears, release of the new conditions of service and promotion.

According to him, in response to the letter, a meeting was held last week between the union and the management where issues concerning staff welfare, pension and gratuity, end of year bonus and promotion were discussed.

Other issues which took the front burners at the meeting were: rationalization of staff, provision of operational vehicles, work ethics, working tools and environment, monetization, NPA training school as well as approval for revised condition of service.

Speaking at the event, the president general of MWUN Comrade Tony Nted, who was represented at the meeting by one of his deputies, comrade Dipo Ogunleye, urged the branch working committee to be transparent in all their operations, even as he commended the way the branch’s elections were conducted peacefully a few months ago.

The inaugural branch working committee was also witnessed by the NPA senior staff association president, comrade Umar Jimoh, the president of the dock workers branch, comrade Adewale Adeyanju and the secretary general of the MWUN, Comrade Aham Ubani.
