The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has announced the passing of Comrade Wasiu Keshinro, a Trustee of the union, who died on Monday, December 2, 2024, after a brief illness.

The President-General of MWUN, Com. Adewale Adeyanju, in a press statement issued on Wednesday, described late Keshinro as a courageous and resilient leader who devoted his life to the welfare and advancement of maritime workers.

He noted that the late Trustee was a man of integrity and dedication, whose contributions to the union will remain a lasting legacy.

“Comrade Wasiu Keshinro was a true fighter for the cause of maritime workers. He was tough yet compassionate, loyal, and unwavering in his commitment to the union. His demise has left an indelible void among us,” Adeyanju stated.

Keshinro was celebrated for his diligence and exceptional service as a Trustee at MWUN’s National Headquarters. Before assuming this role, he was a leading figure in the Dockworkers’ Branch, where he earned a reputation as one of the most resourceful and knowledgeable members.

His leadership qualities and dedication to the union’s progress stood out, earning him the respect and admiration of his peers and subordinates alike.

The PG added that beyond his professional contributions, Comrade Keshinro was known for his calm and amiable personality. He was soft-spoken, humorous, and approachable, often wearing a gentle smile that endeared him to everyone he encountered.

He said the llate Trustee was also a devoted family man, leaving behind a wife, children, and grandchildren. His passing is a significant loss not only to his family but also to the union and the entire maritime community, where he was regarded as a thoroughbred maritimer and an icon of excellence.

The President-General further stated that the entire MWUN family—its executives, members, and staff—will deeply miss Keshinro. “He was a brother, a mentor, and a loyal comrade. His legacy will forever remain in the history of our union,” Comrade Adeyanju added.

The union prays for the Almighty Allah to grant Comrade Keshinro eternal rest and to give his family the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss.
