Adewale Adeyanju, Comrade Isah Ahmed, Comrade Waite Harry, presenting branded shirts confirming their support for Adeyanju for second term as President General of the union on Wednesday in Lagos.

The President General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN); Prince Adewale Adeyanju, has assured that his second term in office will witness more tranquility and witness creation of more employment in the industry.

Speaking while receiving district heads who came from ports outside Lagos to give their solidarity support to him for another four years in office  at the MWUN secretariat in Lagos on Wednesday, Adeyanju assured that his second term in office will be void of crisis, even as he promised to create more employment for maritime workers.

Adeyanju, who  said he was grateful for the immense support he has been receiving for his second term bid, assured that never again will maritime workers be used as thugs for politicians, adding that the dock workers cannot be used as slaves in their father’s land.

He further said that he is going to use his second term to reposition the four branches of the union for better, while informing that in the history of MWUN, no President General has ever received the overwhelming support of the branches as he has received, where all the four branches will come together to give their support

He said: “My second term will be more peaceful, will create more employment, there won’t be crisis, never again in the history of MWUN will the dockworkers be used as thugs, we know what the union is known for in the past, when coming here then was a difficult thing, and how we used to receive invitation from the Police, State Security Service (SSS) EFCC and others, but today we have not recorded anything like that we know how this place used to look like before”

“For the past 40 years, what we are witnessing today has never happened, where all the four branches come together to support and give their continuity mandate, this kind of gesture has never happened where all the four branches come together to support and give their mandate, this kind of gesture given to me had never happened”

"I want to thank everyone of you for the support and I appreciate you, good things are coming for this great union, the dock workers cannot be used as slave in their father’s land

Let me also inform you that very soon we are going to sign the NJIC agreement I am also going to use my second term to reposition the four branches of the MWUN", he said.

Speaking earlier, the district chairmen of the union   from Warri, Onne, Calabar and Port Harcourt  ports described the PG as an ambassador for peace and a man trust worthy enough to go for another term in office.

The Chairman of the Port Harcourt District, Tony Okocha describe the PG as a father figure who cares after his children, he noted that under his administration he went to school and became a graduate, due to the support he received from him.

Also speaking at the endorsement ceremony, Sunday Osho, who had one time opposed the President General, declared his support for Prince Adewale Adeyanju, whom he described as a man with a good heart, he stated that although he was an opposition and was working against the government of the PG initially, he said that the overwhelming love of the PG has proven him to be a good man.

He urged the PG not to act as politicians do, who work in their first term, but go asleep after getting re -elected.

However, in his response, the PG said "I will never be a politician and I will never be one of them, I am a labour activist and I will ever be a labour activist till I die, I have the pain to improve the welfare of dockworkers, I will not sell you, if I don't sell you 15 years ago, I won’t sell you now" he assured.

Also speaking, Micheal Ubogu, the Managing Director of Micura Stevedoring Services described Adeyanju as a good leader who embraced both friends and family, while also giving his solidarity for the second term re-election bid.

Recall that the four branches of the Union  NPA branch, Shipping branch, Seafarers branch and the Dockworkers branch had earlier given their mandate to support the PG for another four years in office.
