In a statement on its intention, that was sent to Shipping Position Daily, the association reiterated its surprise about the August 1, 2012 invasion, allegedly on the prompting of a serving Customs Officer; Mrs Jayne Shoboki and declared its resolve to seek legal redress.Mrs Shoboiki is a presently a Deputy Controller .
Specifically, NAGAFF in the statement which was signed by its chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT); Mr Chidiebere Enenamah said it was assembling a team of 10 senior lawyers to drag Mrs Shoboiki before the court of law.
“It is imperative that NAGAFF as a registered organisation of the Federal Republic of Nigeria should strive to make Mrs Jane Shoboiki to realise that Nigeria, under civil rule is not a Banana Republic , our essence to seek redress for justice in a law court is germane in a civil society under the circumstance”, the association pointed out.
It also alleged that the Customs officer abused her office and also took advantage of the position of her husband as a retired General in the army by personally leading armed soldiers into the premises of NAGAFF.
Distancing its founder; Dr Boniface Aniebonam from the controversial petition which it confirmed to have written to the Customs Comptroller General, the association wondered why the matter should lead to a personal attack on its founder whom the soldiers allegedly threatened to kill if he was available on the day they came.
Stressing that it has great respect for the Customs and the Army, NAGAFF however lamented that it had no choice than “to pursue this unprovoked attack to a logical conclusion through legal means with intent to ensuring justice”.
In the statement, the association maintained that its founder was not party to the petition, and stated that rather than turn its national headquarters to a hunting ground for Dr Aniebonam.
