The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has urged Enugu State Government to encourage youths in the state to go into freight forwarding business and also acquire necessary training as part of efforts to support the government in e-commerce evolution in the air cargo industry.

The freight forwarding association also charged the coal city state government to partner with it for the purpose of assisting in the development of the international airport.

The National President of NAGAFF, Chief Eugene Nweke gave the advice last Monday when a high-powered delegation of the association paid a courtesy visit to the governor of the state, Barrister Sullivan Chime at the Enugu State House.

Nweke told the Governor that the association is interested in partnering with his administration in the area of proper management, administration and other operation for the benefits inherent in an international airport which has been conferred on the Akanu Ibiam International Airport (AIIA).

"Our immediate concern is to support this government to key into the lucrative business of air cargo industry and the trends therein"

"It is our considered opinion that the Enugu State Government should also encourage or support some youths in the state to go into freight forwarding", he stated.

According to him, the presence of airlines in the state will attract freight forwarders and truckers, and this will bring about drastic changes to the business environment and activities in the state.

He added that e-commerce offers a wide range of online business activities involving goods and services, which are made available on the internet.

"Indeed, the internet improves interaction between airlines, freight forwarders and importers and e-commerce facilitates quick decisions; deliver value added service to customers and engaged in high level interactions with customers, airlines, freight forwarders and especially government agencies", he stated.

The NAGAFF boss further said that: "NAGAFF will expect the Enugu airlines, freight forwarders and the shippers to spend much time to evaluate their supply chain, adding that the Chamber on behalf of the state government can in collaboration with FAAN reach out to international airlines taking a clue from Singapore's alliance which consists of airlines, such SIA cargo, SAS cargo, Lufthansa cargo and JAL cargo."

"The alliance will enable all parties to share not only products and services, but capabilities as well and members can gain from services awarded by multiple partners with wider networks and capacity"

Shared management expertise, a wider supply network, shared capacity, shared cost, elimination of competition, consolidation marketing efforts, personal capabilities, increased operational efficiency and shared information technology are some of the long term benefits of an alliance, the president opined.

"However, much emphasis is on airlines, but the freight forwarders have also adopted this concept though they compete aggressively for their own market share", he stated.
