The Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy says it has finalized the National Policy on Marine and Blue Economy, a comprehensive framework designed to enhance maritime governance, foster economic growth, and position Nigeria as a leader in the global blue economy in line with Africa’s Agenda 2063.

According to a press statement signed by the Head, Press & Public Relations of the Ministry, Muhammad Tahir Zakari which was made available to our correspondent,          it noted that speaking during the final session of the Executive Technical Validation Workshop held at the Abuja Continental Hotel, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, described the policy as inclusive and strategic.

Oyetola emphasized its significance in addressing the intersection of economic growth and maritime development, noting that the policy will serve as a blueprint for advancing Nigeria’s maritime sector in the coming years.  He also highlighted the importance of collaboration with industry experts, academics, and researchers to ensure the policy’s effectiveness.

“This engagement aims to restore our priorities and solidify a framework for advancing the maritime sector. A key factor in driving maritime development is the establishment of a strong policy framework,” Oyetola stated.

On his part, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Oloruntola Olufemi, noted that the workshop served to consolidate previous efforts and finalize a sustainable framework for Nigeria’s blue economy. He acknowledged the growing global significance of the marine sector and its potential to transform Nigeria’s economic landscape.

“This policy represents a forward-thinking approach to harnessing the immense potential of our blue economy. Over the past few months, we have witnessed its growing relevance in global discourse,” Oloruntola said.

The National Policy on Marine and Blue Economy is expected to enhance Nigeria’s maritime governance, attract investments, and unlock the vast potential of the sector, positioning the country as a key player in the African and global maritime domains.

The workshop brought together stakeholders, including industry professionals, academics, and policymakers, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to fostering sustainable growth in the sector.
