Nigeria Imported 373,513 Metric Tonnes Of Wheat In June

Even as the president of the country had announced an increase of duty payment from 35 to 65 percent on the importation of wheat with effective from July 1st 2012, a total of 373,513 metric tonnes of wheat has been recorded in the month of June.
In its drive to encourage local production of bread in the country through the use of cassava flour  ] the Federal government has vowed to discourage the importation of wheat into the country.

In its drive to encourage local production of bread in the country through the use of cassava flour  ] the Federal government has vowed to discourage the importation of wheat into the country.
Document from the Nigeria Port Authority [NPA] revealed that importation of wheat into the country has risen as against that was recorded in May, when a total of 249,417 metric tonnes of the commodity were imported.
However, a total of 13 ships came into the Lagos ports with the product, out of which Apapa Bulk Terminal in the Lagos Port Complex handled seven, while JosepDam at Tin Can Isklandf Port handled the remaining six vessels that were  laden with the commodity.
Statistics has it that MV Pacific Bulker, Nyack Princess, Great Mary, Desert Condor, Spring Hawk, and MV.IVS Orchard are the six vessels that came in June with the product at Josep Dam terminal with a total of 119597mt.
While Desert Rhapsody, Spring Eagle, Desert Calm, Desert Spring, Desert Glory, Desert Oasis and Desert Unity are the seven ships that discharged the commodity at Apapa Bulk Terminal Limited with 253,916mt.
