Nigeria to Partner Maldives on Maritime Security, Terrorism

Nigeria has expressed its readiness to partner the Republic of Maldives to address maritime security challenges and the fight against terror.
This pledge is contained in a statement by Malam Umar Sani, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to Vice President Namadi Sambo in Abuja last Friday.
“Sambo made the pledge when he met his counterpart, Muhammed Waheed-Deen during a stop-over at the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport, Male, capital of Maldives.

Nigeria has expressed its readiness to partner the Republic of Maldives to address maritime security challenges and the fight against terror.
This pledge is contained in a statement by Malam Umar Sani, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to Vice President Namadi Sambo in Abuja last Friday.
“Sambo made the pledge when he met his counterpart, Muhammed Waheed-Deen during a stop-over at the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport, Male, capital of Maldives.
“Sambo, who was in Maldives en route Japan for the Tokyo International Conference on African Development, assured that Nigeria was willing to renew its bilateral relations with Maldives.                               
The statement quoted Sambo as telling his host that Nigeria was one of the fastest growing economies in the world and that Nigerian banks had tremendous experience to participate in the Maldivian economy.
“He, therefore, promised to encourage Nigerian banks to come over to the Maldives.''
According to the statement, the vice president said Nigeria will gain a lot from Maldivian tourism, the country's major source of income.
“He expressed the readiness of Nigerian businessmen to invest in the Maldivian tourism sector.''
The statement as quoted Waheed-Deen as expressing his delight with the stop-over, ascribing it to divine intervention.
Waheed-Deen also expressed delight that “after 25 years, Nigeria and Maldives will renew their bilateral relations.
“Maldives looks forward to signing a memorandum of understanding with Nigeria in the areas of security, power, tourism, agriculture  and private sector participation in trade.”
Gov. Gabriel Suswanm of Benue, Sen. Isaiah Balat and Amb. Abdul Azeez Yoosuf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs attended the meeting, the statement said.
