The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has said it would continue to strengthen partnership with institutions training Nigerian cadets in the Philippines.
Executive Director, Marine Labour and Cabotage Service, Mr Calistus Obi, spoke during a courtesy visit by some officials of NIMASA to Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU), Batangas City, Philippines.
325 Nigerian cadets are undergoing the National Seafarers Development Programme (NSDP) organised by NIMASA in the institution.

Obi urged the students to be of good behavior in order to leave a good legacy in the school and enhance its partnership with Nigeria.
The executive director urged the students to be dedicated and focused in their studies.
He described the students as ‘ambassadors’ as well as the hope of Nigeria, adding that, “to whom much is given, much is expected”.
“President Goodluck Jonathan and the Director-General of NIMASA, Dr Patrick Akpobolokemi, as well as the entire staff of NIMASA, do not want anything short of success from these experiences.
“We have zero-tolerance for indiscipline and the purpose of this training is to enable you to excel and come back home to impart the knowledge on other students,” Obi said.
He urged the students to always take instructions from their instructors.
Dr Peter Laurel, President, Lyceum of the Philippines University, Batangas City, said the management of the university would give the students the best.
Laurel, who was represented by Mr Frederick Badillo, a top official of the university said, “We will make sure that we give them the best facilities to become successful maritime professionals in future”.
He said that the school’s management had introduced sports and cultural activities, while also engaging the students in various community services as part of the management’s Corporate Social Responsibility.
“We intend to continue the collaboration between LPU and Nigeria; we are already in our third year of implementation for the first batch of Nigerian students, and second year for the second batch.
“We hope to finish the entire programme in flying colours to make it fruitful and beneficial, not only to our university and NIMASA, but as well as to our Nigerian students who are already part of the LPU family,” Laurel said.
