The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has raised alarm over activities of internet fraudsters, whom it says are currently giving false information that they are the agents that have commissioned to sell the Nigeria Seafarers Development Programme (NSDP) pre-qualification examination forms.

According to NIMASA, in a public notice, the fraudsters have also promised the unsuspecting youths to secure their admission into the NSDP scholarship scheme. The agency also advised the public against falling prey to the nefarious activities of the “unscrupulous elements”.
The NSDP is an intervention designed to address the short to medium term manpower requirements of the maritime sector with a view to creating a large pool of Nigerian seafarers to meet local demand and also contribute to the manpower needs of international shipping. To date, more than 1,500 Nigerians youths have been sent for varying programmes in seafaring.
Dissociating itself from the activities of those it accused of leveraging on the success of the programme by selling NSDP prequalification forms, NIMASA cautioned against patronizing them.
“Members of the public are hereby advised to desist from patronizing such individuals or groups of people as the Agency does not sell prequalification forms to students intending to benefit from the scheme nor ask for facilitation fees before being admitted into the NSDP programme,”
The agency consequently advised members of the public to contact its public relations unit or its website for any information regarding the NSDP.
