As part of steps taken to strengthen its crusade of ensuring that capacity building is improved upon in Nigerian maritime industry, Eyis Resources Limited has last week given a ‘one day’ free training session to one hundred and fifty five (155) members and student members of the Nigerian Institute of Shipping (NIS) on issues bothering on custom procedures and other goods classification procedures.
As part of steps taken to strengthen its crusade of ensuring that capacity building is improved upon in Nigerian maritime industry, Eyis Resources Limited has last week given a ‘one day’ free training session to one hundred and fifty five (155) members and student members of the Nigerian Institute of Shipping (NIS) on issues bothering on custom procedures and other goods classification procedures.
Explaining the rationale behind the training, Managing Director of Eyis Resources Limited who is also a fellow of the NIS; Mr. Lucky Eyis Amiwero told Shipping Position Daily that the free training is part of his own way of contributing towards the manpower training institution; NIS, in making sure that the knowledge gap in the maritime sector in bridged.
Amiwero who is also the President of the National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents (NCMDLCA) had also in past weeks given out free manpower trainings to individuals and organizations in order to further build more enlightened resource-personnel in the Industry.
Speaking, he said “the essence of you having something and being unable to give it out is not the best, being an institute of where I belong, I have to try as much as possible, to partner with them and give them a free lecture, a free lunch, and free handouts so that they would see that somebody can do something different, which is the truth”.
According to him, there is a drought of knowledge about the jobs available in the maritime industry and there is need for Nigerians to further harness the opportunities in the sector.
Some of the courses that were treated at the one day lecture includes; the technical aspects of the World Customs Organization (WCO) the World Trade Organization (WTO) respectively.
“The courses are World Trade Organization courses and World Customs Organization courses that are technical, they are technical in the sense that if you are in the port, there is need for you to get general overview of what goes on in the port”, he further relayed.
Other courses treated at the program includes; the general overview on Classification, Valuation, and Single window.
