The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has charged freight forwarders in the nation's maritime industry to participate in the coming elections in Anambra state.
The political party has also called on practitioners in the maritime sector to embrace the party, because, according to its leaders, it is ready to provide the platform for practitioners to contest any given position in the state.

At a political gathering organised by the New Nigeria People's Party in Lagos, last Friday, the National Chairman of the party, Dr Boniface Aniebonam explained that other political parties in Nigeria do not have a background from any sector of the nation’s economy, but it is only NNPP that has the interest of the transport and logistics sector ay heart.
Aniebonam who is also the founder of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) called on practitioners in the freight forwarding circle of the maritime industry not be discouraged by funds to contest for any elective position as the party is fully ready to render assistance.
The national chairman also urged freight forwarders to create awareness in their respective villages in Anambra state.
According to him, the journey of transformation will commence from Anambra state, adding that the party can only succeed if freight forwarders partake in the elections.
He opined that politics has to do with awareness thus freight forwarders can help promote the party.
Speaking further, the Chairman noted that the people of Anambra state need experts from the maritime industry to sentisitize them on international trade, even a she lamented that people from the state often lose a lot of their consignment to the government due to non-compliance with import guidelines.
Aniebonam noted that people of state and the Igbo community in general are predominantly traders and there is the need for someone who can enlighten traders to come on board in a position of power in the state, so as to stem the tide of losses.
"The Anambra people, mostly international traders are losing a lot of their investment at the ports due to non-compliance attitude as far import regulations are concerned ".
"But then government still have a role to play in making sure that they enforce regulation", he said
"My people are not compliant to import regulation because the customs laws are very strict on import guidelines, therefore, we need somebody that is strategically positioned and who is much aware, to come up with ideas and concepts so that they will stop losing their investment ", he stressed.
He also called on the international traders to rally round NNPP and bring out someone that can address issues that surround international trade and how it affect the state.
The NNPP chieftain also opined that the party is poised to engender a new concept in Anambra state, noting that freight forwarders are at liberty because money is not involved, and urged those who wish to contest for the gubernatorial election or even local government elections to come forward.
"I urge you to go back to your state ,your villages, towns and local governments and begin to see whether you can participate in the act of governance and don't feel bad by saying you don't have money because NNPP will provide you the platform".
He urged freight forwarders from Anambra state not to be discouraged by fund as the party is a platform to provide great leaders for the future.
Earlier in his remark national president of NAGAFF, Chief Eugene Nweke stressed that the party is inclined to addressing issues bothering on transport, education and health, adding that the water transport of the state is a natural resources that must create wealth for the people of the state.
The president urged freight forwarders to galvanize support for the party to achieve greatness.
"Anambra is in dire need of good governance, it involves equal representation, it involves everybody having the right to freedom of expression without being intimidated".
"We are looking at the inland waterways of Anambra state and of course see how to put in place a better rail network in the state", he stated.
"With NNPP in Anambra state we have a good governance and people of state will be in for a good time", he added.
The Council elections in Anambra have been slated for Oct. 2013, while the Governorship election may hold at the end of the year or in 2014.
Chief Nweke urged members of the association to ensure that the NNPP emerged victorious in the state.
“Our greatest task now is to go home and participate actively in the politics of Anambra.
“We must sensitise our people that the time has come for a change.
“NNPP is the party to join. We should also go home and pick up forms from the party to contest all elective positions on the platform of the NNPP,’’ Nweke said.
He said that those who refused to participate in governance should not complain when they get bad leadership.
