Nothing Like ‘Camp Boys’ In Customs Service, Says Comptroller

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) says there is nothing like ‘camp-boys’ in its rules and regulations.

The service, however, said it only have errand boys that assist personnel to buy food or wash their clothes.

COMPT. CHEDI Wada

The Acting Comptroller of the NSC, Katsina Area Command, Alhaji Dalha Wada-Chedi, explained this at a Customs/Community Forum on Tuesday at the Nigeria/Niger border in Kongolon.

The controller was reacting to allegations by the border communities that the NSC officials are using the boys to discharge customs’ duties on the road.

“We only have errand boys that our men send to buy food for them, wash their clothes or do other things for our operatives.

“But not somebody who is not a Customs officer and allow him to discharge customs’ duties on the road, just like the camp boys were suspected of doing.

“I have said it, and will continue to say it, whenever you see that, try to let us know, in fact if there is anything you can do with facts, we will like it.

“We will investigate, and pursue him. Because, this is really a minus to our service, we don’t want anything like camp boys in our work. There is nothing like camp-boys,” Wada-Chedi stated.

He pointed out that the meeting was to remind the border communities of the negative impact of the illegal exportation of grains and other food items.

The comptroller also inaugurated two blocks of 16 and 30 apartments built for its operatives in the area.

In his remarks, the District Head of Mai’adua, Dangaladiman Daura, Alhaji Ahmed Diddiri, commended the efforts of the Federal Government and the NCS.

He said that Mai’adua Local Government Area was well known for its maize business, saying “we are feeding so many areas within and outside the country through the supply of the product”.

The traditional ruler said they cannot stop the movement of grains between Nigeria and the neighbouring countries 100 per cent, but assured the NCS that they would not allow its movement in huge quantities.
