NPA To Assess Port Facilities In Bonny Island

Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Malam Habib Abdullahi, has assured that the organisation would soon visit Bonny Island to assess port facilities on the island to adi the activities of the strategic Nigeria Liquefied and Natural Gas (NLNG).
A statement by NPA General Manager, Public Affairs, Capt Iheanacho Ebubeogu, quoted Malam Abdullahi as saying this when a delegation of the NLNG visited NPA in Lagos.

A statement by NPA General Manager, Public Affairs, Capt Iheanacho Ebubeogu, quoted Malam Abdullahi as saying this when a delegation of the NLNG visited NPA in Lagos.
He commended the NLNG for its contributions to the development of the nation’s seaports and the maritime industry in general and pledged that the Authority will fulfill its obligations to all stakeholders in the industry.
Represented by the Executive Director, Marine and Operations, Engineer David Omonibeke, the Managing Director assured the delegation that management will soon visit Port facilities in the Bonny Island for on the spot assessment of the situation.
Abdullahi said that NPA was making efforts to ensure effective succession plan of its ageing marine personnel, including the pilots.
He said the management was also planning to enhance safety of navigation and protection of the marine environment by establishing a Vessel Traffic Management Information Services at Bonny Island.
The managing director commended NLNG for its contributions to the development of seaports and the maritime industry in general.
He pledged that the authority would fulfill its obligations to all stakeholders in the industry.
Abdullahi assured the NLNG delegation of continued mutual relationship that would be beneficial to both organisations.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation and Deputy Managing Director of the company, Mr. Basheer Koko had listed pilotage, training and certification of pilots, channel management, Jetty maintenance and traffic management, light house management, and so on, as critical operational issues which NLNG wants NPA to look into in order to ensure smooth operations in Bonny Island.
While noting that NPA’s role is vital to NLNG operations, he stressed the need for continuous collaboration between the two organisations.
