A week after embarking on a special rescue mission of a wrecked tug boat at the Berth 5 of the Rivers Port Complex, Dutch based wreck removal vessel; Cormorant has successfully completed the removal exercise.
According to the Rivers Port Manager of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Mr Oladele Alabi, the vessel had arrived at Berth 5 of the Rivers Port and commenced operations on November 29th, 2012.

According to the Rivers Port Manager of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Mr Oladele Alabi, the vessel had arrived at Berth 5 of the Rivers Port and commenced operations on November 29th, 2012.
Alabi said that it successfully concluded the removal of a wrecked Tug which has been hindering free navigation on the waterways on Saturday, 1st December 2012at the Port.
While addressing journalists in his office at Basket House in Port Hacourt, Rivers State last week, Alabi explained that the Rivers Port under the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) only played certain roles to facilitate the removal of the wreck but that the actual operations was financed by the vessel owners – ‘Asumemo’
He confirmed that the NPA had held series of meetings with the owners of the wrecked tug in which NPA had mandated the company to write an indemnity letter to it, specifying and recognizing different status of the tug.
Alabi pointed out that the wreck removal vessel had come from Ternauzen in Holland and that its last point of call was Nahiboujih in Mauritania.
