NPA To Encourage Inter-Agency Maritime Cooperation

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has assured that it would continue to encourage the cooperation and collaboration amongst the nation’s maritime agencies in order to achieve a seamless synergy in inter-agency maritime operation.
The Managing Director, NPA, Malam Habib Abdullahi gave the assurance while receiving a delegation of the Federal government committee on Inter-Agency Maritime Coordinating Committee (IMOCC) in his office in Lagos yesterday.

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has assured that it would continue to encourage the cooperation and collaboration amongst the nation’s maritime agencies in order to achieve a seamless synergy in inter-agency maritime operation.
The Managing Director, NPA, Malam Habib Abdullahi gave the assurance while receiving a delegation of the Federal government committee on Inter-Agency Maritime Coordinating Committee (IMOCC) in his office in Lagos yesterday.
The Managing Director explained that the synergy would ensure a cordial relationship between all the agencies and will enable them service the nation for common goal.
Malam Abdullahi who commended the activities of the IMOCC in the nations maritime sector, however reiterated the urgent need for capacity building in the nation’s maritime sector, saying that there is the need to design succession plan which would assure that there would be no vacuum in marine professionals in the nearest feature.
This according to the Managing Director has become necessary because the human element is the most important factor amongst others necessary to keep the industry going and serving the nation effectively.
While expressing the optimism that the organisation would benefit at the end of the Committee’s assignment, malam Abdullahi assured that the NPA will support the Committee to enable it accomplish it mandates.
Earlier in his address, the chairman of the Committee Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ogbor stated that the Committees area of focus include safety and security, cabotage implementation and revenue generation and therefore seek cooperation from the agencies in the industry.
Rear Admiral Ogbor also said that the state of illegality in the maritime sector should be quickly addressed as the government is not happy about it.
The chairman of the Committee added that proper coordination and cooperation of agencies in the industry is vital for improved revenue generation and better operations.
Rear Admiral Ogbor congratulated the Managing Director of NPA on his appointment and prayed that God should grant him the wisdom to do the job.
