The management of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) says that its resolve to distribute relief materials to victims of flood and sundry disasters all over the country, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), is on course.
This agency said yesterday that the urge to continue the exercise  is directly linked to the resounding success that it has recorded in the past weeks by making relief materials available to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in several states across the country.

Outgoing General Manager, Public Affairs of the NPA Chief Michael Ajayi, who was accompanied by the principal Manager, Audit, NPA, Mr Saint David Eze and Mr Solomon Adegoye, senior procurement officer, NPA, took relief materials to three additional states; Kwara, Niger and Kogi.
In Kwara State, the chairman, flood relief committee, Alhaji Dabarako Muhammed was on hand to receive the NPA team. Alhaji Muhammed conveyed gratitude to the Management of NPA on behalf of his State Government. Also present to witness the ceremony were, the special adviser to the Governor on Emergency and Relief Services, Alhaji Musa Abdullahi and special adviser to the Executive Governor on Rural Development, Alhaji Ahmed Makama.
The Deputy Governor of Niger State, Honourable Ahmed Musa Ibeto, the Chairman, Senate committee on Marine Transport, Senator Zaynab Abdulkadir Kure (CON), and other top officials in the Niger State Government played host to the NPA team when they arrived the state.
While the Deputy Governor, heaped praises on the management of NPA for its exemplary compassion, Senator Zaynab Kure, on her own part, seized the opportunity presented by the auspicious occasion, to indicate that she would make a case for the NPA in the National Assembly for the provision of extra-budgetary allocation for the agency. She argued that this will equip the agency with an improved capacity to tackle critical issues in the maritime sector.
The secretary to the Government of Kogi state, Professor Olugbemiro Jegede received the relief materials for the state.
To witness the event were other senior officials of the state such as, the special adviser, special duties to the state Governor, Air Commodore Ogu Onekutu (Rtd), Acting Executive secretary, SEMA, Kogi state, Mrs Alice Ogedengbe and the Commissioner for Environment and National Resources, Kogi state, Alhaji AbdulRahman Wuya.

In his opinion, it is an initiative that is highly commendable.
