Determined to fully computerize all aspects of port operations, the NPA is about to secure the services of  an international consulting company; African Logistics and its Nigerian partner, Trenko International (Nig) to achieve full automation.
This fact was  in Lagos last week, the Executive Director Marine and Operations, Aina Egharevba said NPA’s desire to change is borne out of the need to embrace global best practice that is, “to be the best not only in the sub region but indeed in Africa as a whole”.
Ms Egharevba also said the proposed Ports Community System (PCS) is what NPA has been yearning for, she added that the organization expects the system to generate Data directly from the vessels while also helping to solve truck management and control especially in the area of truck congestion at the Port gate after clearance.
Earlier in his presentation, a port Management expert representing African Logistics, (INPLAN Ports Management Limited), Mr. Ian Treder promised that his company is ready to build a one stop shop Port Community Central Portal System (PCS) where every stakeholder within the Port Community can draw from effective operation within the industry, thereby making Nigeria the leading country in the West/Central African region.
Speaking further Mr. Treder said the PCS is essential for Nigeria because of her frontline roles in business and commerce.  He added that the PCS will make available quantum data input electronically rather than papers for faster statistical analysis and operations.
In his own response, the Nigerian partner to INPLAN Ports Management Limited and Managing Director of Trenko International (Nig) Limited Mr. Adetunji Adebayo said with the PCS there will be an effective synergy which will connect all port users for seamless operations.
He added that they are actually partnering with various International Companies to try and develop, coordinate traffic, security system, and tracking all cargoes meant for Nigeria.
Finally, Mr. Adebayo also said they intend to relate and talk to other stakeholders within the industry to see where they can provide the necessary linkages when next the team visits the Authority.
