The National Union of Petroleum Employees and Natural Gas (NUPENG) has urged the multinational oil companies operating in Nigeria to stop recruitment of Nigerians as “casual workers”.
It was part of the union’s resolution at the end of a three-day workshop organised by the Port Harcourt zonal office in Uyo.
The resolution contained in a six-point communique was signed by Mr Salvation Akpaghoro and Godwin Eruba, Zonal Secretary and Chairman respectively.

“The union unequivocally frowns at the casualisation of workers and called for its abolition in the oil and gas sector,’’ it said.
NUPENG also called for human capacity building.
It stressed the need for economic independence of individuals through the development of entrepreneurial skills for effective mobilisation of organisational skills to promote employment and self sufficiency.
The union also called for dialogue as the best practise for resolving industrial dispute, urging the companies to see it as partner toward enhancing productivity and organisational growth.
NUPENG appealed to Nigerians to curb the menace of insecurity in the country.
The union thanked Gov. Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom for his intervention in some of the industrial crises rocking the oil companies operating in the state.
