The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Port Harcourt zone, has decried the continual destruction of petroleum tankers by the Joint Military Task Force (JTF).
Mr Godwin Eruba, the Chairman of the zone, made their stance known last week in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
Eruba said that the destruction of tankers allegedly involved in illegal oil bunkering was uncalled for.
According to him, the JTF is going beyond the maintenance of peace in the Niger-Delta.

Eruba said that the destruction of tankers allegedly involved in illegal oil bunkering was uncalled for.
According to him, the JTF is going beyond the maintenance of peace in the Niger-Delta.
The chairman said that the burning of tankers by members of the JTF was not acceptable to NUPENG.
“The tankers are not the culprits the JTF should go after because they know who are involved in illegal bunkering.
“I think the people involved are the top placed officers in the country; including retired military men and they (JTF) know them,” Eruba alleged.
He urged members of the JTF to always verify their claims instead of acting on rumours.
“The JTF should stop burning tankers because the fight against illegal bunkering should start by arresting those involved in the ugly menace,” Eruba said.
The chairman described illegal oil bunkering as a bad act because of its negative effects on the oil and gas sector.
Eruba said that NUPENG was ready to partner the JTF to ensure the curtailment of oil theft in the Niger Delta.
