The Organised Private Sector of Nigeria (OPSN) has issued a call to the Federal Government and the Labour Unions to work together diligently in order to prevent any disruption to socioeconomic activities.
The OPSN, consisting of five major business membership organizations in the country, including the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA), expressed concern over the scheduled nationwide peaceful protest or rally planned by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) on Wednesday, August 2, 2023.
In a press statement from the OPSN a copy of which was sent to our correspondent highlighted the series of consultations between the Federal Government and the NLC which, unfortunately, have not yielded positive results.
The OPSN While recognizing the right of the Labour Union to advocate for the welfare of its members, urged the Government to make every effort to re-engage with the union leadership and find an amicable resolution to avert the potential disruption in business activities that may arise from the protests.
The OPSN expressed its concern over the current state of the economy and warned against the possibility of unintended social unrest that might result from the planned protests. In light of this, the organization called on its members to approach their business operations with caution while awaiting the outcome of ongoing consultations between the Government and the Labour Unions.
The press statement was signed by the Directors General of the five business membership organizations in the OPSN and released on behalf of the group by the Director General of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, Mr. Segun Ajayi-Kadiri.
