Oyo Customs Destroys N21m Frozen Products

The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has said  in Ibadan that it has destroyed 3,500 cartons of frozen poultry worth N21.5 million smuggled into the state
The command also intercepted and seized 10 vehicles popularly known as “tokunboh.’’
The Area Comptroller of Customs in the states, Mr Abdul Amade, told newsmen that the vehicles were intercepted at Kokobi Village near the  border between Oyo State and the Republic of Benin.

The Area Comptroller of Customs in the states, Mr Abdul Amade, told newsmen that the vehicles were intercepted at Kokobi Village near the  border between Oyo State and the Republic of Benin.
Amade said the exercise  was carried out by the command’s border patrol officers.
He said the frozen products were destroyed because they were contrabands and harmful to human consumption due to the preservatives used on it.
Amade said the  three persons arrested in connection with the incident were already in detention while the command ommand had commenced investigation.
 He said the command was determined to pursue vigorously the aggressive anti-smuggling campaign to boost the revenue accruable to the Federal Government.
“We in Oyo/Osun Area Command are resolute in achieving our mandate which includes curbing contrabands in other to protect our indigenous industries,’’ he said.
The command, he said,  would soon organise an enlightenment campaign to sensitise people on the differences between contraband and non contraband goods.
He lauded  the gesture  of the Oyo Government in donating two pick-up vans, saying this had  enhanced the effective patrol of  border areas.
