PDP Blamed for Fuel Scarcity

A Member of the Oil and Gas Reform  Implementation Committee (OGIC), Dr  Mohammed M. Ibrahim has lampooned the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the current problems within the down stream sector of the oil industry.
Blaming those he referred to as “some rascals within the ruling Peoples Democratic Party” for the non- availability of petrol in filling stations across the country, Dr Ibrahim, who is Chairman, OGIC sub-committee on Policy Framework for the Establishment of the National Petroleum Directorate and the National Petroleum Research Centre gave this opinion at a function put together lats week at the 10th Group Public Affairs Division (GPAD) of the NNPC lecture on the topic, ‘OGIC Repositioning the Nigerian Oil and Gas Sector.’
According to him, “rascalism, greed and the unpatriotic manner of Nigerian leaders is the cause of failure of the NNPC. We need to be told some home truths and we also need to tell ourselves, NNPC,  government and other stakeholders in the sector about who is responsible for the failure of the NNPC and who or what are the causes of  products shortages.”
The expert who is former Chairman, Eleme Petrochemicals heaped the blame totally an the head of the ruling party saying that there is excessive political interference in the running of the sector and that this has led to the appointments of people with little or no experience about the oil sector.
According to him, the blunder that such misfits make is what led government to persuade the current minister of petroleum, Dr Rilwanu Lukman to accept to serve in that capacity.
“They had to beg Dr Rilwanu Lukman,”  who was then the chairman of the OGIC, to take the appointment as  minister of petroleum, adding that his appointment was seen as a fillip for the passage of the industry reform bill which is still before the National Assembly.
