The management board of the Petroleum Equalization Fund (PEF) has said that all petroleum tanker trucks that are currently operating in the nation’s  downstream sector must ensure that they are registered and tagged for use under the ‘Project Aquila’ scheme which the PEF kicked- off early this year.
The Project Aquila is an electronic solution for dispatch and reception of products which was introduced in order to monitor the movement of trucks carrying petroleum products and to ensure prompt payment of marketers claims.

The General Manager, Corporate Services of PEF, Mr. Goddy Nnadi said that any transporter who fails to register his fleets under the new system will not have his equalization and bridging funds reimbursed after the December deadline.
He said so far about 15,000 trucks have been tagged and registered under the scheme and many more will soon be captured.
The petroleum products bridging accounts is for bulk of fuel used at the hinterland in Nigeria because of the decay of the pipeline system.
Project Aquila is an application of an automated electronic business solution for the dispatch and reception of petroleum products introduced by the current management of the board in order to ensure transparency and quick settlement of claims by transporters.

Nnadi said that so far the system has helped them to easily confirm the loading and delivery of petroleum products at the depots with improved claims processing among others.

He said that tagging and registration is free of charge and all that is needed is to present vehicle purchase documents, proof of ownership, receipt of plate number and company registration document.

He said the Agency has embarked on sensitization tour of some depots to notify the marketers and transporters on the benefits of 'Project Aquila'
