A statement by its president, Mr Babatunde Ogun, in Lagos, said that the association would go on strike if the government failed to find the remains of the deceased.
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association (PENGASSAN) on Thursday called on the Federal Government to apprehend vandals that attacked and killed oil workers at Arepo Pipeline, Ogun, in September.
Three workers of the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company (PPMC) were allegedly killed by suspected vandals during the repair of a ruptured portion of the pipeline.
A statement by its president, Mr Babatunde Ogun, in Lagos, said that the association would go on strike if the government failed to find the remains of the deceased.
“PENGASSAN will support the PPMC to withdraw the services of our members, if the government cannot find the affected workers– either dead or alive,” he said.
The union president said the government should ensure that it curbed the activities of pipeline vandals, because they were a threat to oil and gas workers.
“People, especially our members, should not be used as guinea pigs and be killed anyhow in performance of their duties.
“We will withdraw our services if our safety and security are not guaranteed,” Ogun said.
He said that the union had contacted the Minister of Petroleum Resources on the plight of the workers but nothing has been done.
