POTEMAN Hosts South – South Governors In Port Harcourt This Week

All roads lead to Port Harcourt, Rivers State this week where Port and Terminal Management Academy of Nigeria [POTEMAN] is set to hold Its Manpower Development Programme (MDP).
 It is expecting at least four governors from the South – south part of the country as special guests of honour at the Professional Innovation Workshop. It will hold at the Nigeria Port Authority [NPA] training hall.

All roads lead to Port Harcourt, Rivers State this week where Port and Terminal Management Academy of Nigeria [POTEMAN] is set to hold Its Manpower Development Programme (MDP).
 It is expecting at least four governors from the South – south part of the country as special guests of honour at the Professional Innovation Workshop. It will hold at the Nigeria Port Authority [NPA] training hall.
The POTEMAN has said that the Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Ameachi, Governor of Cross Rivers State, Liyel Imoke, Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan and the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill Akpabio will play a significant role in the project.
The two- day workshop will hold between 7th and 8th of June with the theme: “Turning eastern seaport terminals into strategic business centre – Balancing public and private participation’’, will also have Honourable Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi ,the chairman ,marine transport committee, House of Representatives as special guest of honour.
According to POTEMAN, “the visitation of the House of Representatives, committee on marine transport on the spot assessment of the level of inactivity and problems facing eastern seaport terminals under the chairmanship of Honourable Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is a litmus test that will be turning the eastern seaport terminals into a strategic business centre that is timely and essential for strong balancing of the economy of Nigeria’’.
The training programme will also have the Managing Director, Nigeria Port Authority, Engineer Omar Suleiman and Executive Secretary of Nigeria Shippers’ Council Captain Adamu Biu as guests of honour.
The institute noted that ‘’the eastern seaport terminals constitute a significant pivot point upon which the Nigeria economy rotates the imbalance in shipments between the eastern and western seaport terminals draws the Professional Innovation Workshop to address this challenges ‘’.
POTEMAN also disclosed that the objectives of the workshop are to deal with challenges and opportunities of the eastern ports under a deregulated economy, pointing out the need to promote eastern ports through strategic business units.
The workshop will also bring together the crème de la crème of the Nigeria maritime sector as distinguished speakers and guests of honour.
Day one of the will parade Doctor Obed Ndikom  , a senior lecturer ,Federal University of Technology ,Owerri who will speak on the topic ‘’Evaluation of eastern seaport terminal operators – challenges and opportunities under public and private partnership approach, while Princess Vicky Haastrup the chief executive officer of ENL, Consortium Limited will speak on the topic; Turning eastern ports into strategic business centre.
Day two of the workshop will feature the Port Manager, Port Harcourt port, Rivers State Mr Dele Alabi will speak on the topic; ‘’Promoting eastern seaport terminals viability through strategic business unit-the public establishment intervention, while Mr.Simeon Onyenyenwa ,Port Manager ,Delta Port Warri, Delta State will discuss on the future of eastern seaports terminal operations amidst shippers demand fluctuation under deregulated economy.
POTEMAN has also assured that at the end of the professional innovation workshop, participants will be able to understand the challenges and opportunities that eastern port terminals under deregulated economy are facing.
