PPMC, Major Marketers assures adequate fuel supply

The Petroleum Pipeline Marketing Company (PPMC) in collaboration with major oil marketer’s association in the downstream sector last week gave assurances that the scarcity of petrol that is gradually creeping back into most filling stations  will soon be put to an end.

The meeting was said to have been necessitated by the long queues that have resurfaced again at fuel stations due to the fact that many stations are running out of stock while few of them have closed shop for lack of products.

A representative of a major oil company who was present at the meeting hinted Shipping Position Weekly that “we are on the matter, the situation is just a slight hitch in supply and a sustainable measure is being agreed upon to make sure that supply is boosted, also there have been assurances of prompt distribution of products through out the country, so I believe it will be rectified soon”, even as he reassured that “there is no need for Nigerians to panic unnecessarily, we should be rest assured that it is temporary”.

However, as at last weekend, there are still signs of scarcity, because some of the major marketing companies do not have the product to dispense. According to a source at the Ijora depot facility of AP, they are the only ones loading on that axis while apart from Folawiyo energy in Apapa, none of the storage facilities at Ibafon are not loading PMS.
Our correspondent gathered that the anxiety was intensified last week as a result of a storm and bad whether at midstream which have caused a delay in the transhipment of premium motor spirit (PMS) from mother vessels to smaller vessels for lighterage

It was learnt that the whether lasted for more than 24hours and was said to have caused a delay in the berthing of PMS laden vessels.

A source who spoke to our correspondent last week at a depot belonging to Sahara Energy expressed concerns that “the situation has started making everyone to stock the product at home again which is very dangerous, I have more that 80 litres of the product at home.
