The road traffic law that was recently enacted by the Lagos State government is to hinder the movement and sale of vehicles on Lagos roads.
The new road traffic law has banned used vehicles without registered plate numbers from plying the 475 roads across Lagos metropolis.
A clear indication that an automobile dealer or trader cannot move his used vehicles from one location to another in search for a new buyer due to this development.

A cross section of fairly used vehicles trader has reacted to the development on the movement of vehicles within the metropolis. Due to the nature of many clients’ jobs, most of them demand the dealers to bring their choice of car to their offices or places of work.
Managing Director, Pan-Auto Nigeria Limited, Mr Paul Njoku believed that the new road traffic law will only hinder dealers who are yet to register their businesses.
Njoku disclosed to Shipping Position Daily, in Lagos last week that the new law will separate business -minded individuals from those that parade themselves as car dealers.
According to him, 70 percent of cars sold to customers come as a result of moving the vehicles from place to place.
He explained that “we cannot deny the fact that the Lagos state government has not done well for the citizens of the state, but the new traffic law which states that vehicles without plate number cannot ply major roads of the state will definitely affect people that are into the sales of Tokunboh cars”.
The dealer went further to say that, ‘’we make sales through relocation of the vehicles courtesy of our colleagues who may have someone in need of a particular brand and with the law in place, I think so many Tokunboh dealers will not be able to move their vehicles across the state because majority of them are yet to register their business”, Njoku lamented.
He noted that the law will make dealers to take their businesses seriously; adding that with the restriction of vehicles without customized registered business plate number cannot make good sales as it were before the law was enacted.
In his reaction, Chairman, Ben. G. Autos, Chief Benjamin Enefazu revealed that it will reduce sales of vehicles in Lagos as unregistered dealers cannot move their vehicles outside the state to other parts of the country.
Enefazu said that most of the fairly used automobile markets are yet to register their stand, adding that dealers at Berger market, Surulere and even Festac town will depend on sales within their vicinity due to the new road traffic law.
