Seafarers Celebrate Christmas Carol in Lagos

The Mission to Seafarers; a seafarer charitable organisation funded by the church, held  colourful Christmas Carol  for Nigerian seafarers in  Apapa last week, saying it was part of efforts of the body to encourage seafarers to  move closer to God and for them to understand the meaning of Christmas, even away from home.
According to the body, the seafarers’ Christmas carol has been a yearly event in the country in the past 15 years.

According to the body, the seafarers’ Christmas carol has been a yearly event in the country in the past 15 years.
Chaplain of the Mission to Seafarers and the seafarers club, Venerable Mike Gbadebo in his sermon at the carol, called on the government agencies in the maritime sector to assist seafarers in the area of capacity building.
Gbadebo said that the maritime agencies are oppressors of the seafarers as they have the solutions to the plights of seafarers pointing out that the oppressors are being manipulated by the devil.
The Chaplain lamented that as a result of lack of contentment on the part of those he called oppressors; they need to embrace Christ this festive period as it is the only solution to the many problems of seafarers.
He urged government agencies to show love to seafarers adding that they should shun greed and render assistance to seafarers in the best way they could.
He added that training of the seafarers in the country is fundamental for the growth and development of the maritime sector, because the seafarers play a pivotal role   in ensuring that the vessels are well taken care of at sea.
The reverend noted that if the government can assist in the area of training, it will reduce the level of unemployment in Nigeria.
He also lamented that Nigerian seafarers are suffering and the government need to come to their rescue.
He however called on the seafarers present to pray for the government to have a change of heart for the growth of the nation in general and the maritime sector in particular.
