In order to forestall incidences of explosion and other security attacks, the Capital Oil and Gas tank farm has warned tanker drivers and other marketers doing business at the depot to desist from abandoning trucks in the premises of the tank farm.
In a statement signed by the Depot Manager of the depot, Mr. Godfrey Okorie and sighted by Shipping Position Daily, the depot said that a fine of N20, 000 will henceforth be slammed on airing drivers and customers.

In a statement signed by the Depot Manager of the depot, Mr. Godfrey Okorie and sighted by Shipping Position Daily, the depot said that a fine of N20, 000 will henceforth be slammed on airing drivers and customers.
The statement noted that it has been observed that customers after loading their trucks allow them to remain inside the depot until they receive alert from their banks before proceeding with loading. This is usually done without the knowledge of the depot manager and thereby posing a risk to the entire facility.
“In view of the recent happening therefore, customers are warned that henceforth, any truck that passes a night inside the depot shall attract a fine of twenty thousand naira” it states.
Confirming the development in an interview with our correspondent also, Okorie said that the measure is necessary so as to prevent security attacks and to prevent explosions.
“In a facility like this, we need to put security checks in place, the reason being that today in our country we are having security challenges, and we should not lose sight that where we are operating in, some people may come in disguise, when you now load the product and park it overnight, anything can happen, there may be an explosion because you never can tell what the tanker is carrying”
“Secondly, because the tanker is carrying a volatile product PMS, there might be expansion on the truck and it may also explode”
“Some people may want to leave their trucks at our depot and wait to get alert from the bank, in order to discourage all these, it becomes necessary to inform them earlier on so that you know that leaving your truck here is a risk to the facility”
Apart from these, Okorie said that it parking of trucks within the terminal will always hinder vehicular movements within the terminal.
“It hinders vehicular movement, assuming there is an incident and trucks are littered here and there, there won’t be a way to escape if there is an emergency, so it become s necessary to inform these people that this practice must stop” he said
