Seme border command of the Nigeria Customs Service has recorded an impressive revenue collection turn over of about =N=3.5 Billion for 2008 even as the command’s area controller, Alhaji Ali Wakili assures that his officers and men would surpass that record in 2009.
Wakili, a Comptroller of Customs told newsmen in Seme last week that apart from the =N=3,513,931,473.43 that was collected, the command also recorded 362 seizures with duty paid value of about =N=362.3Million.
Similarly, a total 87 vehicles that were being brought into the country through unapproved route were seized; he disclosed just as he added that his command arrested 32 persons and secured conviction of seven of the accused in 2008.
Giving an insight into his command’s performances so far in 2009, Wakili disclosed that in January alone, a total of =N=238.59 was collected while 13 seizures were recorded and two suspects arrested.
The controller also sounded a note of warning to smugglers to steer clear of Seme border saying that no stone would be left unturned in the efforts to make the command a no go area for smugglers.
