Udofia said that the inability of its members to work together to protect their rights had led to the exploitation of some shippers
''Most people don’t even know much about us because we have failed to tell them that we exist, it is time to change all that.
‘’As importers, it is our duty to be our brothers’ keepers in situations where our business is threatened,’’ he said.
Udofia called on practitioners, especially those in the South-South zone; to rise up all forms of sabotage.
He described the moribund state of sea ports in the Zone as ‘’economic sabotage’’ aimed at crippling the economy of the area.
According to him, “we cannot fold our hands and watch our business die; it is time for us to partner with well meaning Nigerians for the progress of our area.’’
Udofia explained that the economic role of the zone in the development of the country could not be over-emphasized, adding that sea ports in the area should not be abandoned.
