Poised to facilitate legitimate trade and create awareness among stakeholders in the maritime industry, the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has sought the collaboration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in the sensitization of stakeholders on International Commercial Terms (Incoterms)2020.
The Executive Secretary of the Council, Mr. Hassan Bello made the call during a courtesy visit to the ICC office recently in Lagos, following the review of the Incoterms 2020 which has already been published by ICC.
Bello, who was represented by the Director, Consumer Affairs, Chief Cajetan Agu stated that the visit was to collaborate with the ICC in the areas of trade facilitation and also to create awareness on the new Incoterms 2020 among stakeholders in the shipping industry in line with both organization’s mandates.
Speaking also on local shipping charges imposed on shippers by the shipping companies and the port congestion, Chief Agu, reiterated the need for the immediate implementation of the study of gridlock and for electronic schedule for trucks, as well as the installation of electronic gate for access into the port and a good railway system from the Lagos Port to the Port Harcourt, Kano axis.
In her response, the Secretary General, of ICC; Mrs. Olubunmi Osuntayi, congratulated the Shippers Council for their impact and relationship with international bodies and its position in protecting the interests of stakeholders to ensure they are not taken for granted.
She also advocated for a new approach like online training for staff, capacity building and equipment for importers and exporters.
