A former National President of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) and Chairman of Skelas Group, Prince Olayiwola Shittu, will chair an award dinner organized by Nigerian maritime journalists in honour of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, today in Lagos.
The event, scheduled for Thursday at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja, by 6 p.m., will bring together top maritime industry stakeholders, including chief executives of government agencies, freight forwarding leaders, shipowners, terminal operators, shipping lines, and regulators.
Adeniyi is being recognized as the “Iconic Maritime Personality of the Year 2024” for his outstanding contributions to the sector. The initiative is a collective effort by Nigerian maritime media practitioners across print, electronic, and online platforms.
The participating journalist associations include: Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN), League of Maritime Editors (LOME), Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON), Maritime Journalists Association of Nigeria (MAJAN), Shipping Correspondents Association of Nigeria (SCAN), Online Maritime Media Association of Nigeria (OMMAN) and Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP).
Maritime journalists, including independent reporters, unanimously agreed to celebrate Adeniyi’s achievements since assuming office. His tenure has been marked by exceptional revenue collection, anti-smuggling efforts, trade facilitation, national security enhancements, staff welfare improvements, inter-agency collaboration, infrastructural upgrades, ICT advancements, and corporate social responsibility initiatives.
The award dinner is expected to serve as a platform for industry leaders to commend Adeniyi’s reforms and contributions to the growth of Nigeria’s maritime sector.
