SHITTU UNFOLDS AMBITION FOR ANLCA PRESIDENCY

…..SAYS “THERE IS A LOT OF WORK TO BE DONE”

After successfully conducting all outstanding chapter elections in the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Prince Olayiwola Shittu has signified his intention to contest for the Presidency of the association.

Although dates for the zonal and national executive council elections are yet to be announced, Prince Shittu told our correspondent last week that he had made up his mind to contest when the time comes for the national executive council elections.

The declaration followed his earlier resignation as chairman of the electoral committee of the association, having successfully conducted elections into all the chapters in Western zone of the association.

The development came a few days after the immediate past national president of the association; Chief Ernest Elochukwu declined to go for a second time. He had been under pressure to re-contest, but he told Shipping Position Weekly on the telephone last week that he had decided not to seek a second time.

Prince Shittu’s emergence on the scene; although expected by a large membership of the association is likely to create upset as some people are said to have been promised the plum job by some god fathers.

Confirming his intention in a chat with our correspondent last week, he confessed that he had been under intense pressure by his teeming admirers and that he is also convinced that he is best suited for the job and that he would soon make a formal declaration.

There is a lot to be done and I believe that the time is right to also contribute my quota to the unending development of our association in the capacity of national president.

Refusing to talk in-depth about his plans for ANLCA, he however confirmed that he will be leading a team of seasoned professionals and time tested members of the association to chart a new path for ANLCA’s development and match to its previous glory.

“I am quite aware that there is so much to be done, the industry is fast changing and we must get ANLCA back to its position as a force to reckon with and we will achieve it”, he said.

A cross section of senior members of the association who spoke with our correspondent on the declaration of intention by Prince Shittu expressed happiness at the development. All the chapter chairmen who also spoke with Shipping Position Weekly in Lagos equally expressed excitement over the unfolding development.
