The Nigerian Association of Air Freight Forwarders and Consolidators (NAFFAC) has faulted the age-long claim by the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) that it is the oldest freight forwarding association in the country
The NAFACC told our correspondent last week that, contrary to the claim that it was incorporated in 1954, ANLCA was actually officially registered in 1996
Faulting the ANLCA claim last week in Lagos, the President General of the association, Mr C.A.T Agubamah advised the National President of ANLCA, Prince Olayiwola Shittu and all members of the association to stop proclaiming to the world that ANLCA has been in existence since 1954.
According to him, ANLCA was registered by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in 1996 making NAFFAC the first registered freight forwarding association in Nigeria.
He said that what is known to be ANLCA today was formally known as Association of Nigerian Customs Licensed Agents (ANCLA) that was formed in 1954. He added that it was the revocation of licenses by Customs that gave rise to other freight forwarding associations like what is now known as ANLCA, NAGAFF and National Council of Managing Director of Licensed Customs Agents.
He also tasked ANLCA to stop using the CRFFN governing council as a forum of associations, adding that ANLCA action is what led to the collapse of CRFFN.
He affirmed that the NAFFAC is in full support of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) even as he described the council as the father and mother of all freight forwarding associations.
"We must admit our difficulties in an environment that has been dominated by ANLCA, but that does not mean NAFFAC cannot be accredited by CRFFN”
"ANLCA is a child born out of ANCLA which was the oldest freight forwarding association in the country since 1954 and the next association that was registered was NAFFAC which was in 1985,while ANLCA registered in 1996, same with National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents(NCMDLCA) and NAGAFF"
"Their ANLCA is not the oldest registered association and I stand on my toes to say this, because ANLCA has been trying to steal the identity of ANCLA".
"If Shittu want to debate with me, I will not debate with him and all I will say is that we should go to the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) or to go to the Federal High Court in Ikoyi for the records"
"CRFFN is not a forum of associations, rather is a forum for elected freight forwarders and those people who trying to build empire around themselves should take that simple lesson”, he cautioned.
