Chairman of leading indigenous conglomerate, Sifax Group‎, Barrister Taiwo Afolabi has been honored with the Kwame Nkruma Exemplary Leadership Honors for Hard work and Dedication to Human Capital Development in West Africa region, by the West African Students Union Parliament‎ (WASUP)
Afolabi was so honoured according to WASUP for his contributions to the society in terms of direct and indirect job creation. He was also recognized as being a lover of youths and‎ for believing in the course of youth development.
The WASUP executives flew in from different universities in Ghana, Cameroun, Burkina Faso and Togo to present the award to Afolabi on Monday in Lagos.
Speaking at the award presentation ceremony at the Sifax headquarters in Apapa Lagos ‎,the executives of WASUP led by its Nigerian Coordinator, Comrade Daniel Nwachukwu noted that the honour bestowed on the Sifax boss has been received in the past by some Nigerians including: Cardinal John Onayekan and the Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Abubakar Saad 3rd.
"We believe he has contributed immensely to the facets of job creation, we are not saying that he has employed everybody in Nigeria, but we know there are direct employments and indirect employments and we believe he should be awarded the Kwame Nkruma‎ Honour"
"This means that he has contributed in the facet so dear to us and we want to spur him to do more, we believe that by honoring him , he will become a role model to youths and students and his pairs in the society"‎ Nwachukwu stated.
The WASUP executives also appealed to the Sifax boss to contribute to the campaign against drug abuse and prostitution on campuses which is being championed on campuses of higher institutions by WASUP, all over Africa.
Clerk of WASUP, a Cameroonian and a student of Kokodi University in Abidjan, Comrade Hameed Coulebally noted that the body has been campaigning against abuse of drugs and cough syrups by students in secondary schools and University campuses, a fight in which they encouraged the Sifax boss to join in.
"We do not honor politicians, but we honour leaders because, politicians are people who think of the next election, but leaders are people who think of the next generation, we prefer to honour leaders because we believe that by contributing your quota to the development of West African communities, things will get better and the youths will know they have a part to play in the society rather than wasting their lives on drugs" he said.
Responding, the Sifax group boss, Taiwo Afolabi represented by the Executive Director Human Resources and Administration, Dr. Phil Ofulue appreciated the students for deeming him fit for the honour among many business men and leaders in Africa.
Ofulue described Afolabi as one who loves the youths and has a passionate disposition towards human beings in general.
"He identifies with anything that will add value, joy and socur to his fellow human beings" he said.
‎He commended the WASUP executives for their efforts at educating West African students against drug abuse and breaking the barriers that have been created among African students.
‎The event was attended by the Special Assistant to the Sifax Boss, Barrister Ezekiel Ajewole and Director General of the Djibouti Consulate Dr. Roggers Salle‎.
