Sifax Group Boss; Taiwo Afolabi Is POTEMAN Chairman

The Vice Chairman of the Sifax Group; Dr. Taiwo Afolabi has been elevated as the Chairman of the
Port and Terminal Academy of Nigeria (POTEMAN); a foremost capacity building institution in Nigeria.

Dr. Afolabi had hitherto been the First Vice Chairman of the academy and elevation had been necessitated by the completion of the tenure of the former chairman; HRH Blessed Israel Nwaiwu who died in June 2013.

Registrar of POTEMAN, Dr. Babatunde Samuel told Shipping Position Daily that before his death, Nwaiwu had served the institute for four years, and that the constitution of the institute states that you can only serve for four years as the chairman.

He said that Dr. Taiwo Afolabi had been the first vice chairman of the academy, and that going by the unanimous decision of the board, he was elevated to become the chairman of the academy.

"We communicated the letter to him, to the glory of God, through his special adviser on administration he has conveyed his acceptance to the academy” Babatunde said.

He assured that a due date will be communicated to maritime industry stakeholders on the investiture ceremony.

According to him, this will coincide with the 5th graduation of the academy where it will equally confirm honorary doctorate degrees on distinguished practitioners in the industry.

"The industry is growing and in this growth we need to recognize people who have contributed to it"

Eulogising the contributions of the new chairman, the POTEMAN boss said: "Barrister Taiwo Afolabi has been of immense contribution to the industry on the platform of Ports and Cargo, SAHCOL, recently he has also set up Sifax Oil and Gas Services Limited".
