The Sifax group, owners of the Ports and Cargo Handling Services, Sifax Shipping Company Limited and Skypower Aviation Handling Company, (SAHCOL), once again demonstrated commitment to its corporate and social responsibility last week when it played host to scores of the less privileged and motherless children at its head office in Lagos.
The event, which is annually packaged by the conglomerate, is often characterized by donation of various items, including food and other basic amenities to the children under the Ajoke Ayisat Afolabi Foundation, (AAAF), a non-governmental organization,(NGO), to commemorate the children’s day celebrations.
The children were received and conducted round the Sifax office in Lagos for a brief tour by the Group Executive Director, Human Relations, Administration and Shipping of Sifax Group, Barrister Adedayo Ashaolu on-behalf of the chief executive officer of the organisation, Dr. Taiwo Afolabi.
While presenting gift items to the children, Barrister Ashaolu stated that the essence of the annual event was to further demonstrate the commitment of the company towards a better life for the country.
The head of marketing and public relations, Sifax group, Mr. Oliver Omajuwa while speaking also reiterated commitment and support of the company to the NGO over the years. According to him the company had last year donated a brand new 18- seater bus to the foundation and that there is a monthly monetary vote to the foundation. “What we just did is to commemorate the day with them and not to look at the value of the money spent”, he said.
Giving and insight into the AAAF, Omajuwa explained that “the AAAF foundation is an NGO that takes care of the less privileged in the society, some of the children are from SOS, some from rehabilitation homes and so on. The foundation also identifies some widows in the society that finds it difficult to bring up their children and they set them up so they can have means of livelihood, and when it is time for school they support them with all the necessities of school” he said
The coordinator of the AAAF, Pastor Emmanuel Alao, who led the children to the place expressed appreciation for the efforts of the company and said that “since two years ago that we have established the foundation, Sifax has been the main donor supporting all the children and paying their school fees. They are more than 100 children”.
