Even though he refused to give details of the circumstances under which the two officers lost their lives, the command’s controller, Mr Victor Dimka, however assured that its operatives would not be deterred by the unrelenting disposition of smugglers.

Even though he refused to give details of the circumstances under which the two officers lost their lives, the command’s controller, Mr Victor Dimka, however assured that its operatives would not be deterred by the unrelenting disposition of smugglers.
Giving an insight into the command’s performances in 2011, Dimka disclosed that it recorded unprecedented seizures of 3,071 assorted contraband items with duty paid value of N2, 654,847,564.
The 2011 seizures were a significant increase of about 60 per cent over the figure of 2612 recorded in 2010 which had a duty paid value of about N1.94Billion.
According to the controller, the command was able to arrest 442 suspected smugglers out of which six were successfully convicted, while several cases are still pending in court.
He attributed the landmark seizures to the support that his command is getting from the Services Comptroller General, Alhaji Abdulahi Diko Inde and the management of the Nigerian Customs Service. He affirmed that the command, like other customs formations has all the necessary tools to work with and good remuneration.
