Stars Maritime Academy Hold Graduation Ceremony This Weekend

After about 21 weeks of theoretical and practical training of students of Stars Maritime Academy, management is set to hold its graduation and end- of- year ceremony this weekend  
The academy has also disclosed that the final examination of the current voyage will end on the 17th of this month and the school is expected to resume a new calendar year on the 21st of January, 2013.

The event is expected to host crème de la crème in the maritime training circle, some of whom who are expected to deliver keynote addresses and also dwell on burning issues that affect maritime students after graduation.
In a chat with Shipping Position Daily in Lagos last week, Head of Department (HOD) of Shipping Management of the institute, Mr. Chris Sadoh said that the ceremony is aimed at giving thanks to God for sparing the lives of the students and lecturers of the school.
The HOD disclosed that a total of 106 students from the three departments are currently writing the examination for 2012 academy session, pointing out that 56 students are from the department of shipping management, while 30 students are from the department of marine engineering.
He also stressed that a total of 20 students are also writing the final examination from the department of nautical sciences.
According to him, seasoned educationists from the maritime sector including, the Executive Director, International Logistics and Administration, Mr. Mike Iloh is expected to deliver a keynote address on ‘’Employment Opportunity In The Maritime Industry’’, while the former Registrar of Institute of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria [IFFN] Mr. Ademola Irinyemi and Registrar ,Nigerian Institute of Shipping [NIS] Mr. Chima Sampson are expected to deliver papers at the graduation ceremony and end of year party.
Also expected to be in attendance at the ceremony is the President of Nigeria Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association, Engineer Mathew Alalade.
He said that the students will have the opportunity to interact with the academicians and also get a broader knowledge about the industry and what to expect when they go out to face reality of the maritime sector.
He however noted that as the number of students of the institute continues to increase annually; there will be need to organize Passing Out Parade [POP] to replace the present graduation ceremony.
