Petroleum tank farms operating in Apapa, Lagos have restricted movement of petroleum product marketers who usually flood the depot facility on daily basis in their quest to load products.

Shipping Position Daily checks carried at some of the depots last week revealed that the tank farms have created ticketing and marketing offices outside their facilities for marketers and product buyers.

Our correspondent also gathered that the depots are now encouraging their customers to embrace e-transaction in order to decongest the usual crowd at the various tank farm premises.

Speaking with our correspondent at the Ibru Jetty last week, a union executive, Mr. Chris Iyasere confirmed that the only people allowed inside any of the tank farms now are the driver and the motor boy.

Apart from controlling human traffic, Iyasere pointed out that any truck coming into the depots are now checked and screened properly before it is allowed to go in.

"Any truck that come in now, we check it with security device thoroughly and scan it very well before it is allowed to go in and this is what so many depots are doing now"

"In the past, people troop inside the depot to go and load their trucks, but now what we have done is that we have created an office space for all the marketers, so their activities end outside the gate, the only people that enter the depot now is the driver and the motor boy"

"So the issue where people troop in on their account of bringing trucks to load is no more"

"We created these offices outside the depot in order to control human traffic, we don't want people who do not have any business to just enter the depot anyhow just to avoid any security embarrassment, as a result of this, the traffic here is under serious control”, he said.

Iyasere said that petroleum product marketers have been advised to do their inquiries and payments electronically.

This according to him, it is after transaction has been completed online that only the driver is sent forward to the depot to load the product.

"If you have anything to confirm regarding price of products, you call the product owner and they will tell you the price on phone, price is everywhere and you can decide where to buy from"

"The price is not stable with one particular depot, you can stay in your house, get your price, get to the bank or even use your phone to make payment, once they receive alert, you can send your truck to go and load" he said.
